Vancouver Art Exchange – Brand Platform
The conceptual brief: a contemporary art gallery to be built in Gastown was in need of a new brand and identity system. It’s target audience included design savvy visitors to Vancouver involved in the creative, digital or movie industries, as well as residents of Vancouver who want to keep up with what’s happening in this vibrant city. The project required a name, an identity and look for communication materials and core displays, and asked for a smart, in-the-know, stylish and tech-savvy brand personality.

The Vancouver Art Exchange operates with the purpose of being the space for bringing together community, conversation, collaboration, and to explore common ground through creativity. It’s focus is on contemporary, multi-disciplinary and new media art experiences which are global in scope, yet local in focus. As a new cultural fixture in a historical centre of trade and commerce, the gallery’s name honours this heritage while advancing it’s own type of exchanges in the form of ideas, perspectives and experiences.

The logo depicts the core values of convergence and interconnection, which is represented by the extremities coming together and meeting in the same space. The central hexagon represents this space in which the gallery facilitates the joint experiences of individual parts, running the gamut of disciplines, communities, and concepts that have yet to be explored.
